Above Championship Grade Dancers

Also referred to as Disco Freestyle, it was originally known as Disco dancing this started back in the early to mid 70's, but made more popular by the release of the film Saturday Night Fever in the late 70's many Ballroom & Latin dance schools started to teach Disco Dancing. Its now developed over many years and is known as Disco Freestyle. Competitions are held over the globe for this style of dance, you can dance solo, in pairs, teams, its fast and energetic. But its a great form of dance that can help aid any other dance style you maybe learning. Many of today's successful dancers actually learnt and competed in Disco Freestyle. The music used is no longer a disco beat, it more Donk, Scouse House, Hard NRG, Eurobeat.

Children Freestyle Classes.

Come and learn the fast and energetic dance style, with fun classes, classes for beginners, intermediate & Advanced Competitor Levels. Of course majority of our classes are for those who want to learn to dance socially and keep fit, but you may in that time decide you would like to compete in Disco Freestyle Dance Competitions, this is not a problem as we are a Competitive School.

You must reach a particular standard before you will be offered the chance to compete. It is your choice and once you become a competitive dancer you may also perform Solo, Pairs, Trios, Teams

You can turn up and watch if you do not wish to join in straight away, we always recommend you come with a friend or in a group that way you do not feel so nervous as you will be with people you know, but if you do come on your own your soon make a load of new friends!

Clothing and Shoes, we recommend for disco freestyle you wear something that is not too baggy but you can move freely in, jeans although always fashionable are restrictive as are some shorts, on your feet we suggest trainers, plimsolls, or jazz shoes (these are not expensive) If you become a competitor you would actually dance in bear feet.

Tell Me More!

Disco Freestyle is danced to fast music with a strong definitive beat, majority of the music currently used are cover versions of slower songs, some with a "Donk" or also known "Scouse House" beat, but majority are "euro beat" "NuNRG" with some "Hard Dance" music, so with a fast music you will become a fast dancer, but to start with in beginners classes you would dance to much slower music as dancing fast is fine as long as you can finish of your line, so dancing a full speed as competitors do is something you would work towards. You will during this time increase your stamina, burn off lots of energy and this aids your personal fitness. The dance style is very much like what you see in many shows or pop star backing dancers' styles with some small amounts of gymnastics moves, its a world that you would not even know existed. When people attend a competition for the first time they are over whelmed by the glitzy and fully stoned costumes and the atmosphere.

Ability is displayed at regular competitions where dancers from different dance schools all over the UK (and also abroad) get together to compete for medals and trophies. These can also be weekend festivals that are great fun also, as many family members come along to support the dancers.

Any dancer can compete in these with a strong hope of success as the dancers compete against dancers of similar ability. There is a governing body that has created rules for the dancers, teacher and promoters of competitions.

The dancers are divided into groups at competitions into age groups, and then ability for that group. The ability groups:

Beginners
Starters
Intermediates
Championship

Dancers can move up into a higher ability group over time when three 1st, 2nd or 3rd places are awarded at competitions. This is a guide as particular rules that are in place can effect the above.

Dancers move around the dance floor anticlockwise with other dancers on the floor at the same time, with judges placed around the sides. In order to be picked for the next round and therefore to be placed later on, the dancer must dance their best (to their own personal set routine) to wow the judges and attract their attention!

Competitions are great fun. We allow pupils to enter competitions once they have reached a certain level. They are not compulsory. You may also be selected to dance in a competitive dance team / troop

We are looking forward to this years 25th CAMBERSANDS DISCO FREESTYLE COMPETITION WEEKEND (October 2009)

If you require a booking form please speak to your teacher.
